FRIVOLE goes stateside

At the end of the day, the Wertheimer & Frère homebred FRIVOLE (lot 548) was knocked down for €155,000. Placed in her last two starts, the winning daughter of Anodin is a half-sister to FUSE, that was placed in the Prix de Malleret (Gr.2), and comes from the family of Group winners LEGERETE, SOLEIL MARIN, IRON LIPS and FALCO. 

At the helm of Ecurie des Monceaux, it was Henri Bozo that signed the docket, saying, 

“’ve bought her for Gary Chervenell, who is looking for fillies to run in the United States with breeding potential afterwards. FRIVOLE has all of these qualities. She has all the qualities to run well over there and comes from a great place.

HEALING OASIS for the Australian syndicate First Light Racing

At Deauville for the first time, Tim Wilson, at the helm of Australian syndicate First Light Racing, was active during the day, notably striking for the Fabrice Chappet trained HEALING OASIS (lot 545). The three-year-old daughter of Oasis Dream is from the family of Group 1 winners SPINNING WORLD, WAR OF WILL and PATHFORK.

We’ve bought four mares between yesterday and today, said Tim Wilson. The three-year-old fillies from the Northern Hemisphere have a lot of opportunities with us. Healing Oasis ticks all the boxes. She has a lot of qualities and looks like she will race over a mile.

€100,000 filly for Ballylinch Stud

John O’Connor (Ballylinch Stud) and Thierry Storme went to €100,000 to secure a daughter of Intello. Offered from the dispersal of Haras du Quesnay, the filly is out of Listed winner and Group placed TREASURE, that has already produced black-type performers including Listed winner TRESORIERE.

Thierry and myself have been friends for a long time and are partners on several horses, said John OConnor. We both really liked this filly, as she is very good looking and walks well. Shell maybe come back next year, but we havent ruled out the possibility of racing her. Shes very racy, her dam is a Listed winner and has already produced three-black type performers - she ticks all the boxes.

Daughter of Churchill for BBA Ireland

Offered from the Aga Khan Studs, the Francis-Henri Graffard trained SHAHNAMEH was knocked down €175,000 in favour of the BBA Ireland bidding on ARQANA Online. The well bred daughter of Churchill out of Listed winner and Group placed SHAMANOVA hails from the Aga Khan maternal line of SHAMDALA, SHAMDINAN and SHERGAR.

LOT 329
Daughter of Intello makes €90,000

The dispersal from Haras du Quesnay offered today the first foal out of PERLE D’AUGE, that went through the ring yesterday and made €350,000 to Newsells Park Stud. Her daughter was knocked down for €90,000 to Fernando Laffon-Parias, who signed the docket for the filly by Intello that hails from the close family of Prix Minerve and Dubai Stakes (Gr.3s) scorer ETERNAL PEARL and is from the maternal line of the excellent PEARLY SHELLS.

She’s been bought for a partnership of owners that wish to continue the story in France, said Fernando Laffon-Parias. She’s a lovely filly who’s dam sold well yesterday. It’s too early to talk about her future trainer but we are very happy.

€110.000 for a daughter of Persian King

A few minutes later, it was the turn of a daughter of Persian King to attract attention around the ring. It was Nicolas de Chambure, at the helm of Haras d’Etreham, that had the final say at €110,000 for the filly out of a half-sister to Group 1 winners NYMPHEA and NUTAN. The very well bred filly hails from the family NIGHTFLOWER, NIGHT OF MAGIC ans INTELLOGENT.

We were looking for a filly by Persian King and this one is very nice and comes from a good family. The aim is for her to run for us, and we’re very happy!

Son of Persian King sold for €160,000 to Yeomanstown Stud

Consigned by Arcadia Élevage, a son of Persian King was knocked down for €160,000 to Robert O’Callaghan (Yeomanstown Stud). The colt, out of a half-sister to Group winner MASK OF TIME, hails from the family of  de 1000 Guineas (Gr.1) heroine MISS FRANCE.

For us he was one of the best foals in the sale, said Robert O’Callaghan. He ticks all the boxes, is a lovely colt by Persian King and comes from the great family of Miss France. We’re very happy!

€140,000 for a daughter of Frankel

Ecurie des Monceaux offered today GIRL WITH YOU, a winning daughter of Frankel out of a sister to Group 1 winner ZOFFANY.  Dave Mee, at the helm of the Australian entity Pinhook Bloodstock International, went to €140.000 for the filly that hails from the family of Group winners ROSTROPOVICH, WILSHIRE BOULEVARD, JUST DANCER, SPOTLIGHT and PROJECTION. She’ll now go to Sydney in Australia to continue her career. 

We were really looking for a filly by Frankel, and these kind of fillies are hard to find in Australia, said David Mee. She is a winner and is improving all the time. We’re delighted!

QUEEN TREZY for a partnership including Haras du Cadran

Offered from Haras d’Etreham, QUEEN TREZY was knocked down for €800,000 in favour of Alexandra Saint Martin (ASM Bloodstock). Placed in the Prix Minerve and Pénélope (Gr.2s) this year, the Carlos and Yann Lerner trained filly finished third in the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr.1). The three-year-old daughter of Almanzor is from the family of Group 1 winners CALL THE WIND, WITH YOU and WE ARE.

Queen Trezy has been bought for a partnership of Haras du Cadran, Ballylinch Stud, Ecurie Melanie and a fourth investor, said Alexandra Saint Martin. Shes a lovely filly with a fantastic pedigree. She has everything to be an excellent broodmare.

Wild Card THUNDER DRUM for Northern Farm

A few minutes after signing for MISS EXTRA, Katsumi Yoshida (Northern Farm) and Emmanuel de Seroux (Narvick International) struck again, this time for Prix de Royaumont (Gr.2) heroine THUNDER DRUM for €1.1 million. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux as a Wild Card, the daughter of Dubawi out of the Classic winner GREAT HEAVENS is from a leading Rothschild family.

Bobby Flay strikes for FINAL GESTURE and GLINTING

After signing the docket for OTTILIEN at €600,000, the famous American chef Bobby Flay bought Listed placed FINAL GESTURE for €925,000. Offered from Goldolphin, the daughter of Dubawi is out of Group winner and Group 1 placed Galileo mare SECRET GESTURE. The well-bred filly hails from the family of Group 1 winners JAPAN, MOGUL, SAGAMIX, SAGACITY, SAGEBURG and PERFECT POWER

This type of pedigree really interests me, said Bobby Flay. Shes a daughter of Dubawi, black-type and her dam is by Galileo.

A few lots earlier, he had struck for GLINTING, a daughter of Galileo, a half-sister to dual Group winner BONDI BEACH and Gallinule Stakes (Gr.3) scorer CONSTANTINOPLE for which her went to €925,000. Offered from La Motteraye Consignment, she is carrying her first foal by Wootton Bassett, and hails from the family of Group 1 scorers SIMPLY PERFECT and BIANCA NERA.
Shes one of the mares that I really wanted today, said Bobby Flay. She is by Galileo from a lovely family. For me she was one of the best mares in the catalogue.

Very active today, Fiona Craig (Moyglare Stud) notably struck for Group 2 winner AMAZING GRACE for €850,000. With a rating of 109 and the winner of the Diana-Trial (Gr.2), she took the T. V. Zastrow Stutenpreis (Gr.2) this season. Offered by Ronald Rauscher, the daughter of Protectionist is from the leading family of ANNA PAOLA, ANNA SALAI, ADAYAR and NATIONAL DEFENSE.

MISS EXTRA for Northern Farm

Prix Sandringham (Gr.2) and Prix des Lilas (L.) scorer MISS EXTRA was offered in foal to Frankel by Haras des Capucines. A granddaughter of the excellent broodmare sire MONSUN, the daughter of Masterstroke was sold for €850,000 to Katsumi Yoshida (Northern Farm) and Emmanuel de Seroux (Narvick International).

MALAVATH goes Stateside

A few minutes later, the ring became silent with the entry into the ring of the excellent MALAVATH, from Écurie des Monceaux. The winner of the Critérium de Maisons-Laffite (Gr.2) at two and placed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Gr.1) at Del Mar last year, the Francis-Henri Graffard trained filly took the Prix Imprudence (Gr.3) this year. Placed in the Qatar Prix de La Foret (Gr.1) in October, she most recently finished with in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr.1). Fiona Craig (Moyglare Stud) signed the docket at €3.2 million for the daughter of Mehmas, out of a sister to Group winner CEISTACH, the dam of STEIP AMACH, a dual Group winner and placed in the Prix Jean Romanet and Prix Rothschild (Gr.1s). The filly will now go to the United States to be trained by Christophe Clément.

Shes a beautiful filly, and physically she has everything to be a good broodmare. She should bring speed, which we are looking for. The United States is an ideal place for her, she likes the tracks and has everything to win a G1 over there. Thats the idea!

Group winner HELLO YOU for Shadai Farm

The story of HELLO YOU began at Deauville, when she was offered by Haras du Mezeray at the Select Sale. Bought by Robson Aguiar for €350,000, she returned once again to Deauville this evening, this time consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux. The winner of the Rockfel Stakes (Gr.2) at Newmarket and placed at Group level on several occasions, the Amo Racing owned filly trained by David Loughnane was subject to a lot of interest from buyers. The Shadai Farm team went to €1.155 million to secure the daughter of Invincible Spirit from the close family of Group 1 winner SIGNS OF BLESSING. Bred by Serge Boucheron, she hails from the family of NAZOO, the dam of G1 winners NADIA and SOPHIE P.

Representing Shadai, Takuya Fujita said: 

My first impression, when I saw her here at Deauville, was that she was good. Her race record is excellent and shes a magnificent filly. We dont know yet if shell stay in training or go to stud, were still undecided.

LOT 188
€2,050,000 for Prix Vermeille heroine SWEET LADY

The buzz was palpable when it came to the turn of Prix Vermeille (Gr.1) winner SWEET LADY through the ring. Offered by her trainer Francis-Henri Graffard, she began her three-year-old career by winning the Prix La Camargo (L.) before easily taking the Prix de Flore (Gr.3). In the spring, the Gemini Stud owned mare took the Prix Corrida (Gr.2) before following up in the Qatar Prix Vermeille (Gr.1).  Bernie Sams (Claiborne Farm) had a long bidding war to secure the mare at €2,050,000 for the daughter of Lope De Vega out of Listed scorer HIGH HEEL SNEAKERS. The blue blooded filly hails from the family of American blue hen, MISS CARMIE, a line that has produced CHRIS EVERT, CHIEF’S CROWN, ETOILE MONTANTE, SIGHTSEEK, SPECIAL DUTY, TATES CREEK, WINNING COLORS, CONFESSIONEL, EXCELLENT ART and DEEP SKY.

€920,000 for LET'S MISBEHAVE

Offered by Haras du Cadran in foal to Siyouni, LET'S MISBEHAVE was knocked down for €920,000 in favour of the BBA Ireland. A daughter of Montjeu that has already produced SIPPINSODA, the winner of the Prix Occitanie (L.) this season, she is a half-sister to the excellent HIGH CHAPARRAL.

LOT 182
€1 million for multiple Group winner OSCULA

A few minutes later, it was the turn of OSCULA to make seven figures. A winner of the Prix Six Perfections (Gr.3) and placed in the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac – Critérium des Pouliches (Gr.1), the George Boughey trained and Nick Bradley owned filly also won the EBF Eternal Stakes (L.), Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes and Prix de Lieurey (Gr.3). Ted Voute had the final say at €1 million for the filly offered from Baroda Stud, a daughter of Galileo Gold from the family of Group winners GALEOTA, BROWN SUGAR, BURNT SUGAR, WINGS OF WAR and CHARYN.

Prince Faisal spent a lot of time going through the catalogue, said Ted Voute. Shes the filly we wanted to buy. Shell be retired to stud and be covered by Mishriff.

LOT 180
Wild Card TIMES SQUARE goes to Australia

Added to the sale as a Wild Card, Prix de Saint-Cyr (L.) winner TIMES SQUARE was eagerly awaited in the ring. Also placed in the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr.1) and the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1), the daughter of Zarak was knocked down for €1.25 million. Hubie de Burgh and James Harron had the final say for the filly, that will now head to Australia.

We had some big opponents and we wanted to do everything to get her, said Hubie de Burgh. She’ll go to Australia, where she will stay in training. She’s a beautiful filly, and dual Group 1 placed. Zarak has proved himself in Europe and her half-sister is also Group placed. She has everything to be a good broodmare afterwards.

 

 

LOT 177
BURGARITA was knocked down €1.7 million

Anthony Stroud found himself up against Alexandra Saint-Martin (ASM Bloodstock) for the very talented BURGARITA, offered from Baroda Stud. The former had the final say at €1,7 million for the Andre Fabre trained filly, a dual Listed winner   and placed in the prestigious Prix de Diane Longines (Gr.1). A daughter of Sea The Stars, she is out of ANGELITA, a sister to the excellent ANGARA from the family of ARCANGUES, AGATHE, AQUARELISTE and ARTISTE ROYAL.

Shes a lovely filly by Sea The Stars from a superb family, said Anthony Stroud. Shes the one we wanted to buy, and she ran very well in the Prix de Diane. Were very happy. Shell be covered by Dubawi.

€650,000 for a daughter of Frankel

Offered in foal to St Mark’s Basilica by Écurie des Monceaux, FRISELLA made €650,000 in favour of Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock). A winning daughter of Frankel and a granddaughter of French 1,000 Guineas (Gr.1) heroine ZENDA, she is out of the close family of multiple Group 1 winners KINGMAN and OASIS DREAM.

BBA Ireland struck once again, this time for ONE WAY, a daughter of the late Galileo, offered in foal to Wootton Bassett. Knocked down for €870,000, the mare is a sister to the excellent MISTY FOR ME and BALLYDOYLE from the close family of ROLY POLLY and U S NAVY FLAG. She was consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux.

LOT 166
€675,000 for the half-sister to the Champion TREVE

Eagerly awaited in the ring, a half-sister to the Champion dual Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner TREVE was subject to a long bidding war around the ring. It was Simon Mockridge, the manager of Juddmonte Farms that went to €675,000 for the daughter of TREVISE from the final crop of Le Havre from the Haras du Quesnay dispersal.

She’s a very special filly, said Simon Mockridge. Her half-sister won the Arc twice, it’s incredible! We’re very happy and obviously emotional about the dispersal of Haras du Quesnay.

LUCRECE sells for €710,000 to BBA Ireland

Going under the hammer just before her daughter HELLO YOU, Rockfel Stakes (Gr.2) winner LUCRECE was knocked down for €710,000. Very active today, BBA Ireland had the final say for the granddaughter of Pivotal and half-sister to Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr.1) victor SIGNS OF BLESSING, offered in foal to Frankel by Écurie des Monceaux.

MISS BALOOSHI for Lindy Farms

Agent David Reid, bidding on behalf of Lindy Farms, went to €425,000 for MISS BALOOSHI, consigned by Haras d’Etreham in foal carrying for the first time to Night Of Thunder. The well bred daughter of Group winner ACTS OF GRACE hails from the family of triple Group 1 scorer MISRIFF and Group 1 winners RAFHA and INVINCIBLE SPIRIT.

It’s rare to be able to buy such a pedigree page - we’re very happy said the agent. She’ll stay in Europe to be covered by No Nay Never.

PERLE D’AUGE joins Newsells Park Stud

Offered from the dispersal of the famous Haras du Quesnay, PERLE D’AUGE was subject to a lot of interest around the ring. Bidding on behalf of Newsells Park Stud, the agent Jill Lamb had the final say at €350,000 for the Haras de Saint Pair owned mare. A daughter of Le Havre, the half-sister to Prix Minerve and Dubai Stakes (Grs.3) winner ETERNAL PEARL, that hails from the maternal line of PEARLY SHELLS. She was offered in foal to Persian King. 

At the helm of Newsells Park Stud, Graham Smith-Bernal said,

We like her a lot. She is really good looking and walks well. She’s by Le Havre out of a dam by Oasis Dream and in foal to Persian King, so that should add some size to the family. We’re very happy!”

€105,000 for a foal by SOTTSAS

An unmissable event for European breeding stock, the ARQANA Vente d'Élevage began this morning. Dedicated to the first part of the catalogue, a selection of mares, fillies and foals with exceptional pedigrees are awaited in the ring today. Among them was a foal from the first crop of the Coolmore stallion SOTTSASS, that was knocked down for €105,000 at the start of the sale. It was Florent Fonteyne (Trotting Bloodsock) and Jamie Railton that signed the docket for the colt offered from Haras des Embruns that is out of the family of Group 1 winners SUBTLE POWER, MERSEY, MUNCIE and MK FANCY.
